What is BYOK (Bring Your Own Key), and when does it make sense for a business?

BYOK means Bring Your Own Key. Instead of relying only on the software vendor’s AI account, you connect your own account or API key with an AI provider. This can make sense when your organisation wants direct control over the AI connection and the provider relationship.

What changes with BYOK?

The application still provides the workflow, while AI processing runs through the AI environment you have connected. You control the key and your relationship with that provider.

When is it useful?

It is particularly relevant when your organisation already has an approved AI provider, negotiated terms or a central policy for AI processing.

Does BYOK automatically make AI safer?

No. It gives you more control, but security still depends on the provider, settings, access management and what the application does with data before and after AI processing.
